Does high-res audio streaming audio sound as good as its download?

Perceptual audio optimisation

MPEG-4 SLS (SLS) is the international standard for scalable audio coding. Besides its function as an extension of MPEG-4 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) perceptual audio coder, SLS has a "non-core mode" that is able to offer full scalability. OraStream uses SLS "non-core mode" in its...

Server modes and streaming applications

OraStream adaptive streaming are implemented in two modes: 1. cloud-music services (Connect) - content is pre-encoded and stored in MPEG-4 SLS for streaming and downloads. This supports internet delivery of lossless music files when bandwidth conditions can vary dramatically over different access ne...

Handling lossless downloads

OraStream Connect ingests 16-bit/44.1kHz and higher resolutions up to 24-bit/192kHz lossless files (FLAC or WAV) and encodes them in MPEG-4 SLS for its content origin. As MPEG-4 SLS is lossless audio coding, it can be used in applications that require bit-exact reconstruction, such as studio operati...

MPEG-4 Scalable Lossless Coding

The MPEG Audio standardisation group successfully concluded the standardisation process on technology for lossless coding of audio signals in 2006. MPEG-4 Scalable Lossless Coding provides a fine-grain scalable lossless extension of the well-known MPEG-4 AAC perceptual audio coder up to fully lossle...
