The MPEG Audio standardisation group successfully concluded the standardisation process on technology for lossless coding of audio signals in 2006. MPEG-4 Scalable Lossless Coding provides a fine-grain scalable lossless extension of the well-known MPEG-4 AAC perceptual audio coder up to fully lossless reconstruction at bit-depths and sampling rates used in high-resolution audio.

OraStream uses an enhanced (implementation of the) non-core version of MPEG-4 SLS (SLS stand-alone mode) without any underlying core codec.
